Reliant on repeat business, firm goes beyond year’s warranty
A few years back there was a shingle company that we used for a majority of our projects. If I remember correctly, the company came under new management and changed the composition of their adhesive to a cheaper alternative which resulted in several cases where groups of shingles would fly off of roofs in bad weather. The company did not stand by their product and we knew something needed to be done. Vanman ended up replacing six roofs that year, at our own expense, to ensure that the buildings could be used as intended.
In a standard contract, we lay out a one-year warranty. However, we personally refer to this as “one year and beyond.” At Vanman Architects, we stand behind our projects. That’s how we make a living — we’re always looking for repeat business and positive word-of-mouth, it would be impossible to continue on the way we have without providing that assurance and support to our clients and when the time comes.
