FHLB Chicago names new president

Matthew Feldman

Matthew R. Feldman, president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, has announced his plans to retire on Dec. 31. 

Michael A. Ericson, chief operating officer of FHLB Chicago, will succeed Feldman at that time.

Feldman has held his current position since May 2008, and has been with the bank since September 2003. Prior to that, he was co-founder and CEO of e-learning company Learning Insights, Inc., from 1995 to 2003. He also served as president of Continental Trust Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Bank, and served in a number of other roles in capital markets, investments and general management during his 15 years there. 

Feldman has degrees from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He is a life-member of the Kellogg Global Advisory Board. 

Feldman serves on the board of the Office of Finance of the Federal Home Loan Banks and the board of the Evanston Community Foundation. He is a former chair of the Bank Presidents Conference. He also serves as chair of the Pentegra Defined Benefit Plan for Financial Institutions and co-chair of the Financial Services Pipeline Initiative.

Ericson was named COO of FHLB Chicago in January 2020 and has been with the bank since January 2005, having previously served as executive vice president, group head, members and markets, as well as EVP, chief risk officer. 

Prior to joining the bank, Ericson was vice president, accounting policy at Bank One before its merger with JPMorgan Chase in 2003 and served as global treasury controller after the merger for a year. He was senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the financial services group.

He has a degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is a fellow of The Daniel Burnham Fellowship of Leadership Greater Chicago.
