First International Bank & Trust to open Moorhead branch

First International Bank & Trust is holding a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on its new Moorhead branch.

The branch, slated to open next year at 865 37th Ave. S., is expected to be 8,200 square feet and feature 10 offices, two teller pods, a two-lane drive-thru and banking and insurance teams. Plans for the new building have been in the works since First International Bank & Trust purchased the land in 2008. Once construction is complete in 2022, the branch will provide a full array of financial services and house the Moorhead banking and insurance teams.

“We’ve enjoyed serving the Moorhead community over the years and this expansion will allow us to do so more effectively,” said Peter Stenehjem, president of the $4.4 billion, Watford City, N.D.,-based bank. “We look forward to opening this state-of-the-art branch and continuing to provide high-quality personal and business banking services while helping our new customers ‘live first.’”

First International recently opened another branch in Edina, Minn., bringing in Mitch Cook as market president for the Twin Cities in June. Prior to that, he was senior regional president for MidWestOne Bank. First International operates 31 branch locations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona.
