First State, First Busey name directors

First State Bank & Trust in Bayport, Minn., and First Busey in Champaign, Ill., have named new directors to their boards.

Monica Weekes and Ryan Cari have joined the board of First State Bank & Trust.

Weekes currently serves on the board of the William H. Phipps Foundation and is a foundation representative to the board of the Phipps Center for the Arts. Previously, she has served on the board of Operation Help, including president for 8 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in French education from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Cari is a partner at the law firm of Heywood, Cari and Anderson, S.C., where he has been practicing for 16 years with a focus on real estate, business, banking and estate planning. Prior to joining the FSBT board, he served for 13 years as a bank director with First American Bank, Hudson, Wis. He has bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a law degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.

Samuel Banks

Samuel Banks was named to the board of First Busey Corporation, bringing its number of directors to 10. He has served on the board of its subsidiary First Busey Bank since 1994. Banks is CEO and executive director of Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club in Champaign, although he plans to retire from the position in June 2021. Prior to joining the Boys and Girls Club in May 2012, he served as president and CEO of Glenwood Academy in the Chicago area and Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana, Ill

Banks has a bachelor’s degree from Quincy University and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago. He is an active mentor at local elementary schools and serves on the African American Advisory Group for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Chancellor and the Champaign County Community Coalition.
