Bank Midwest supports healthcare foundation

Spirit Lake, Iowa-based Bank Midwest donated $10,000 to the Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation to help bring vital state-of-the-art screening equipment to residents of the Iowa Great Lakes area.

The donation will be used by the Lakes Regional Healthcare 3D mammography project to help replace an outdated 2D digital mammography unit.

The project’s goal is to purchase, install, train staff and begin providing patient access to 3D mammographies locally by the spring of 2018. Currently, Lakes Area patients are referred to Sioux Falls, S.D., for 3D mammography testing, which involves a more than 200-mile round trip.

“It’s an honor donating to a project that will have a life-saving impact on our community,” said Keith Deitering, Bank Midwest Community Bank President. “By ensuring patients have access to the latest technology locally, we can serve them better and help minimize the need to travel, taking time away from families and jobs.”

The total projected cost is $498,000, and fundraising efforts began in December 2016.
