ICBA past chair Bill McQuillan dies

Independent Community Bankers of America Past Chair Bill McQuillan died Dec. 4 at the age of 76 in Lakewood, Colo.

McQuillan, the former president and CEO of Greeley, Neb.-based City National Bank, chaired the Nebraska Independent Community Bankers in 1988-89 and was ICBA chair in 1998-99.

McQuillan was in the Army Reserve for six years and received a business degree from Creighton University in 1973. Following graduation, he worked at Omaha National Bank before moving to Broken Bow, Neb. He then moved to the western Colorado community of Palisade for six years before returning to Greeley to become the third generation of his family to oversee the central Nebraska-based bank, following his father, Jim McQuillan. Bill led City National Bank until his retirement in 2012. McQuillan and Ernie Goss, chair in regional economics at Creighton University’s Heider College of Business, created a nationally-known monthly economic survey in January 2006.

Bill and his wife, Patty, were married for 49 years and had four children. They lived in Greeley for 31 years before moving to Tucson, Az., in 2016. They moved to Lakewood last year to be closer to family, according to the ICBA.
