Illinois bankers give Girl Scouts a boost

Illinois bankers helped raise money for the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois at the 17th annual Women in Banking conference hosted by the Illinois Bankers Association and the Illinois League in September.

Each year, the Women in Banking Committee selects a different charity to raise money for during the conference. The committee is made up of 19 women from financial institutions from throughout Illinois.

Early on, it was the committee’s wish to have a fundraising aspect to the conference to benefit a charity, said Debbie Jemison, IBA vice president communications/marketing.

Past beneficiaries have included The Salvation Army’s fight against human trafficking, Special Olympics, and Habitat for Humanity.

Money was raised for the Girl Scouts during the conference in three ways: silent auction, monetary donations and a portion of the registration fee from the Murder Mystery Dinner fundraiser.

“We’d love to raise about $1,000 to help them with whatever they need,” Jemison said.

Girl Scout Troop 6195 participated in the conference with presentation of the colors and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The troop is based in Pleasant Plains.

Girl Scouts of Central Illinois serves about 15,000 girls in 38 counties in central Illinois. About one-fourth of the members receive help with membership fees.
