Intercity State Bank CEO to retire as merger looms

Schofield, Wis.-based Intercity State Bank CEO Randy Balk plans to retire at the end of this month. 

The bank named Chris Pfender regional president, effective March 1. Pfender, who has nearly 25 years of community banking and accounting experience, has been executive vice president of Intercity since 2017. 

Balk’s retirement comes as $2.8 billion Intercity State Bank prepares to merge with Dane County-based One Community Bank. Both banks are owned by the Bosshard family. 

“I am proud that our staff has always worked hard to provide a high level of quality service needed to help the people and businesses of our community succeed in meeting their financial goals,” Balk said. 

As part of the succession plan, Intercity State Bank is expected to merge with Dane County-based One Community Bank. Both banks are owned and guided by the Bosshard family.
