Matthew Howrey becomes chair of the Indiana Bankers Association

A prominent Indiana banker has assumed the reins as chair of the Indiana Bankers Association board of directors for 2025. 

Matthew W. Howrey formally assumed the role on Jan. 1. He was appointed to the position Sept. 8 during the IBA’s annual convention in French Lick. Howrey, president and CEO of North Salem State Bank and its holding company North Salem State Bancorporation, has held both positions since 2010.

Howrey, who joined the $645 million bank as CFO 17 years ago, previously served as a bank examiner for the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, eventually rising to a senior financial examiner. 

A 2013 Northwestern Financial Review “Rising Star in Banking,” Howrey has bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington.  

A prominent local volunteer, Howrey gives his time to local nonprofits Hendricks County Community Foundation and Putnam County 100 Men Who Care. He is a past president of both the Greencastle-Putnam County Economic Development Center and the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County.

Other IBA officers for this year include David M. Findlay, first vice chair of Lake City Bank in Warsaw; Lisa Arnold, second vice chair of Home Bank in Martinsville; Benjamin Bochnowski, immediate past chair of Peoples Bank in Munster; and Amber Van Til, IBA president and CEO of the IBA.
