Mattoon bank hands out grants

The First National Bank in Mattoon, Ill., has awarded grants to local organizations totaling $20,000.

The grants — for $4,000 each — will go to five local nonprofits thanks to a program in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. Those nonprofits are:

  • Mattoon Veterans of Foreign Wars
  • Mattoon Moose Lodge
  • Mattoon Eagles
  • Mattoon YMCA
  • Mattoon Public Library

“We are happy about our partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. With their grant, we were able to assist several important organizations in the Mattoon community,” said Preston Smith, CEO of the $89 million bank. “While we are pleased to do our part, the truth is that many of these organizations need additional financial assistance. We encourage others to donate to these organizations and many more when they can, so they can continue to provide their valuable service and outreach.”

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago is offering a COVID-19 Relief Program consisting of zero-rate advances and grants to support all of its member institutions and the communities they serve as they respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The First National Bank has three offices in Coles County, Ill.
