Michigan’s Independent Bank to open branch in downtown Grand Rapids

Independent Bank is growing in west Michigan by opening a branch in downtown Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Grand Rapids-based bank partnered with commercial real estate firm NAI Wisinski of West Michigan to acquire a four-story, more than 15,100-square-foot building to house the branch and 40 corporate employees. Independent Bank leases space for 20 commercial and private bankers as well as its community branch, which is expected to move into the building over the next several months.

“Our business growth and commitment to Grand Rapids created a well-timed opportunity for Independent Bank to support downtown development alongside many other exciting projects, and we look forward to strengthening important partnerships with more organizations across West Michigan,” said Independent Bank President and CEO Brad Kessel.

Independent Bank has nearly 60 branches in Michigan’s lower peninsula and northern Ohio. In late September, Independent Bank opened a branch in Clinton Township, Michigan.
