Mortgage company and clients donate millions to community

Since 2007, Alerus Mortgage in Grand Forks, N.D., has donated more than $3 million to charities that focus on fighting hunger, childhood education, homelessness and affordable housing.

As part of its “Build Your Community” program, Alerus donates $100 to a local cause chosen by the client after each closed mortgage in Twin Cities: the closing loan officer contributes $50, and Alerus matches the ante.

“Our Build Your Community program allows our clients to participate in deciding where our charitable dollars are going – that’s what makes our giving program so unique,” said Lori Day, director of the company.

“Giving back to the communities where we live and work has been a long-standing principle for Alerus Mortgage,” Day said.

Alerus offers business and consumer banking products, wealth management services and residential mortgage financing in Minnesota, North Dakota, Arizona, Michigan and New Hampshire.
