Nebraska banker urges termination of FCS pilot program

Representing the American Bankers Association, Matthew Williams urged Congress to terminate the Farm Credit System’s Investment Bond pilot program. Williams, chairman and president of Gothenburg State Bank, Gothenburg, Neb., testified April 14 before a subcommittee of the House Committee on Agriculture. Williams said bankers are concerned about the potential risk the FCS poses to the rural economy and pointed to the FCS’ Investment Bond pilot program as an example. He noted that it has been used to divert capital owned by farmers and ranchers . . .
