Banker lends a hand for Groundhog Day

Unadilla, Neb., (Pop. 311) may not have many claims to fame, but it is the Groundhog Capitol of Nebraska.

It started in the late 1980s when a local barkeeper wanted to enhance his casual Groundhog Day celebrations with state-sanctioned bragging rights.

He wouldn’t have gotten his wish without the hard work of Bill Brandt, president at the time of The First National Bank of Unadilla (now Countryside Bank).

Brandt was the lobbyist and general counsel for the Nebraska Bankers . . .
