M&A activity off substantially from 2007
Total merger and acquisition deal volume for banks and thrifts declined 45 percent in 2008, compared to 2007, according to data released by SNL Financial of Charlottesville, Va.
SNL Deal Book data shows that there were only 157 deals for banks and thrifts in 2008, for a total value of $36.0 billion. Wells Fargo’s $15.1 billion deal to acquire Wachovia makes up nearly half of the total deal amount . . .
