Old National Bancorp president to retire

Evansville, Ind.-based Old National Bancorp President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Sander plans to retire at the end of June following a 45-year career.

Sander’s banking career started in 1980. He was president, COO and a director at First Midwest Bancorp before the completion of the Old National Bancorp and First Midwest Bancorp deal in 2022.

Sander, who joined First Midwest in 2011, has also been an executive at Green Bay, Wis.-based Associated Banc-Corp, Bank of America and Chicago-based LaSalle Bank before it was acquired by BofA in 2007.

“Thanks to Mark’s strong and steady leadership, Old National is now one of the premier banks in the nation,” said Chair and CEO Jim Ryan.

Also, Daniel Hermann was appointed lead independent director of Old National Bancorp. Hermann is a founding partner of Evansville, Ind.-based venture capital firm Lechwe Holdings LLC, founder of food distribution company AmeriQual Group and is former president and CEO of mining company Black Beauty Coal Co.

Hermann succeeds Becky Skillman, former lieutenant governor of Indiana. Skillman, who has been lead independent director since 2016, plans to remain on the board.
