Mount Vernon, Ill.-based Peoples National Bank awarded 73 graduating high school seniors with a combined $36,500 in college scholarships.
Each student received a $500 scholarship. Peoples National Bank started the program to help high school graduates complete their education at a university, college, trade or vocational school. Scholarships are given to students displaying positive character and leadership in extracurricular activities, academic, and community work.
The bank has awarded 967 students with more than $545,000 in scholarships to date.
“Our commitment to the communities we serve is part of who we are, what we do and why we have been in business since 1909,” said Hunt Bonan of Peoples National Bank. “We are proud to significantly increase our scholarship awards this year. It has been a challenging year for this senior class and we want to provide support for their future endeavors.”
