Straight Talk — Eye on fair lending

The U.S. Department of Justice, under the direction of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, apparently is resurrecting a focus on fair lending. A fair lending unit, created in the Justice Department last year, reportedly is targeting banks with threats of litigation unless they increase their lending services to minority neighborhoods.

Janet Reno tried something similar in the 1990s when she was Attorney General. The result contributed to the subprime mortgage push, which ultimately crashed our economy.
