Almost exactly a year ago, President Obama signed the Local Community Radio Act. The new law, which was a decade in the making, creates the opportunity for community and non-profit groups to license low power FM radio stations. It is expected that the Federal Communications Commission will open an applications window sometime in 2012, and award several licenses for 100-watt stations. That’s enough broadcasting power to reach radios within a 3 or 4 mile radius of the transmitter. A bank looking to do something unique might consider helping its community acquire such a license.
