TS Bank, community donations spark sports complex

The Sept. 17 ceremony marking the opening of “The T” sports complex came after TS Bank and the Guttau family donated a total of $600,000 toward the project. Community members also contributed $350,000.

Vision Treynor Group board members recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a community recreation area in Treynor, Iowa, following large donations from TS Bank and community members.

The Sept. 17 ceremony marked the opening of “The T,” which includes a little league baseball/softball field and regulation-size multipurpose field for flag football and soccer. Work took place after TS Bank and the Guttau family donated  a total of $600,000 toward the project. Community members also contributed $350,000.

In honor of the donations, the little league field has been named “TS Bank and Mick and Judy Guttau Family Field.”

“Our ‘why’ for giving to this project is because of the people standing here today and those who preceded us who have helped make this community great. We are blessed to be part of this community and to continue to see it grow,” said TS Banking Group Chair Mick Guttau.

A 501(c)3, Vision Treynor Group was established in February 2019 to facilitate successful private and public projects for Treynor and the surrounding area. The idea for the complex came after a 2010 Vision Treynor community survey found that the community desired youth sports fields, a fitness center, swimming pool and walking trails. Two years later, Vision Treynor Group board members identified usable land and crafted a master plan outlining the amenities of the future facility.

Site preparation took place from 2015-19 on the entry driveway, parking lot, water line, irrigation and field grading and seeding. Vision Treynor Group sold nine acres to Heartland Properties in 2018, and they developed a 29-home subdivision on the north end of the original Vision Treynor Group property. Another eight acres is for sale to develop 22 more homes on the west side of the property.
