{"id":25281,"date":"2022-07-07T10:45:30","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bankbeat.biz\/?p=25281"},"modified":"2022-07-07T10:45:30","modified_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:45:30","slug":"small-business-lending-stable-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bankbeat.biz\/small-business-lending-stable-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"Small business lending remains stable despite pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small business lending remains stable despite pandemic-era challenges, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerbankers.com\/sites\/default\/files\/sblt_publications\/Q1-2022_CBA-SBFE-Report.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumer Bankers Association and Small Business Financial Exchange\u2019s <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first quarter lending trends report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDelinquency continues to trend lower than normal with funding sources such as PPP still having a moderating effect,\u201d states the July 6 report. \u201cIn addition, higher than normal new account growth appears to be keeping delinquencies low.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0According to the report, new account bookings have again risen above pre-pandemic levels for several reasons, including small businesses beginning to need funding for current operations; small business owner concerns that credit could become harder to secure in the near future; delayed demand after small business owners funded operations from alternative sources for an extended period; and new business starts remaining above average and requiring initial capital or funding for growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charge-off figures, which are considered similar to pre-pandemic numbers, continued to decline in the first quarter with slight increases in some accounts. The Small Business Financial Exchange trade association expects delinquency percentages will increase later this year as the impact of PPP and other initiatives falls and high inflation continues; the Federal Reserve potentially raises interest rates to curb inflation; and wages continue to rise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report was released approximately two months after the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascityfed.org\/surveys\/small-business-lending-survey\/small-business-lending-normalizes-in-the-fourth-quarter\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small Business Lending Survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revealed that small business commercial and industrial lending had fallen nearly 27 percent since the end of 2020 due to the end of the Paycheck Protection Program and a reduction in SBA-guaranteed loans.
