Murray named VP, controller

Sarah Murray

First Security Bank, Charles City, Iowa, promoted Sarah Murray vice president, controller and cashier.

Murray joined First Security in 2016 as assistant vice president, senior accountant, and added cashier duties last year.

Before joining First Security, Murray worked for RSM US LLP in Mason City as a Certified Public Accountant. At RSM, she primarily worked with the financial institution industry team, while also assisting on the manufacturing and small business industry teams. During her time in the public accounting sector, she worked to assist middle-market businesses and their owners with tax compliance and planning needs. In addition, she and her husband have a farm operation west of Charles City.

Murray has Bachelor of Science degrees in finance and agricultural business, as well as in accounting, from Iowa State University, Ames. She also received a Master of Accounting degree from Iowa State University.

“Sarah has done a terrific job in her present role,” said President/CEO Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer. “She will continue to grow in these new responsibilities, and we look forward to her being a leader at First Security.”

Murray is a member of the Iowa Bankers Association Leaders in Advocacy program, which focuses on increasing political advocacy among younger bankers at the national, state and local level. She also sits on the board of the Charles City YMCA.
