Michigan-based Sturgis Bank opens branch

Nicholas Barber will manage the new Niles, Mich., branch of Sturgis Bank.

Michigan-based Sturgis Bank recently opened a branch in Niles to serve customers in the southwestern part of the state. 

Nicholas Barber is managing the branch in addition to leading retail teams at two other Sturgis locations in St. Joseph, Mich. 

Barber, who attended Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, has nearly eight years of experience as a retail financial manager. 

“I am so excited to bring together a team of familiar, local faces into the Niles market,” he said. “We pride ourselves on empowering our team members to be able to make the best decisions possible for our customers. This is an amazing opportunity to service Niles and the surrounding areas and show our true commitment to hometown community banking.”

Patrick Swem, vice president and commercial lender for the $804 million bank, will also be based in Niles. He has a bachelor’s degree in organizational management, business and marketing from Bethel University. Mishawaka, Ind., and more than a decade of experience in commercial lending, bank center management and business development.
