Alerus Financial names new CFO, executive VP

Grand Forks, N.D.-based Alerus Financial Corp. has named Alan “Al” Villalon CFO and executive vice president.

Villalon replaces Katie Lorenson, who transitioned to being president and CEO on Jan. 1. Villalon has more than 25 years of experience in financial services, most recently as deputy director of investor relations and senior VP at U.S. Bank. Prior to that, he spent most of his career in equity analyst research positions, including as a senior research analyst at Thrivent Asset Management and Nuveen/American Funds Advisors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. 

The $3.1 billion bank has also named Jerrod Hanson as chief accounting officer and senior VP. Hanson has spent the last two decades as a controller with Alerus. Hanson, a CPA, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Dakota, and is a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Colorado.
