Associated nabs Huntington exec for president

Andrew Harmening, a former executive at Huntington Bank, has been named president and CEO of Associated Banc-Corp, effective April 28. In addition to joining the board, he will also serve as president and CEO of Associated Bank, N.A., and president of Associated Trust, N.A. He replaces Philip Flynn, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the year.

Most recently, Harmening was senior executive vice president, consumer and business banking at Columbus, Ohio-based Huntington, where he led the bank’s digital and omni-channel strategy. Earlier, he was vice chairman of the consumer banking division of Bank of the West. He also spent nine years with U.S. Bank in several roles in its small business and commercial banking divisions. He began his career as a branch manager at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati.

Harmening serves on the board of the Consumer Bankers Association. He has a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati.
