Bank brings in a quarter-million pounds of food in 10 days

Merchants Bank, Winona, Minn., garnered almost a quarter-million pounds of food in its 10-day-long fundraising event for the holidays.

The food drive, which benefited a local food shelf, brought in $104,225 and 28,045 pounds of food in 10 days. Two pounds of food are counted for each dollar, totalling 236,495 pounds of food.

“We are that much closer to making sure no one in our area goes hungry this winter,” said Merchants Bank Winona and southern region president Andrew Guzzo.

The community donated at their local ice arena and a Friday fish fry, among other neighborhood events. The $1.8 billion bank has raised 3.75 million pounds of food in the past three decades.

“Once again we are moved by our community’s generosity. We are so appreciative of everyone who supported this worthy cause,” said Merchants Co-Chair Jennifer Welch.

“We are fortunate to live and work in such a warm, caring community,” Welch said.
