Centier Bank donates $3K for women’s shelter

Merrillville, Ind.-based Centier Bank donated $3,000 to Michigan City, Ind.-based Stepping Stone Shelter for Women to update and repair the shelter.

Stepping Stone Shelter for Women is a local shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The facility provides crisis lines, intervention, temporary shelter, food, clothing, counseling, transitional housing, advocacy and support groups.

The 24-hour shelter also provides support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault/trafficking through its crisis shelter and Bridge Transitional Housing Problem. The transitional housing also includes fully furnished apartments for residents while they seek permanent housing.

“We are grateful for the support of Centier Bank in supporting our work with a grant as we work diligently to refresh all aspects of our facilities and operations this year,” said Stepping Stone Shelter Executive Director Chris Kostbade. “We could not continue to provide the vital and often life and death services we operate without the support of our community and organizations like Centier Bank. Thank you for being a vital part of empowering our community to live without violence.”

Centier Bank Michigan City Branch Manager Pia Parrott said she is thankful for the partnership with Stepping Stone Shelter.
“Centier Bank is committed to enriching lives in our communities and beyond,” Parrott said. “We are truly grateful to Stepping Stone for providing a reprieve to victims in our community, and we look forward to providing financial education and guidance to residents in the coming year.”
