ChoiceOne Bank hires executive, promotes four employees

Sparta, Mich.-based ChoiceOne Financial Services and subsidiary ChoiceOne Bank hired Derek Jones as vice president, commercial loan officer and promoted four employees.

Jones, who has two decades of banking experience, has been a commercial lender for the past dozen years. He was most recently a VP, senior commercial relationship manager for a regional bank. 

Jones has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the College of Business and Management at Saginaw Valley State University, University Center, Mich., and is working toward his Master of Science degree in accounting from Wayne State University, Detroit. 

Promotions included:

  • Heather Brolick to executive vice president. Brolick has 43 years of experience in banking, and helped launch de novo Community Shores Bank in 1998. Brolick was later president, CEO and director until the bank’s 2020 merger with ChoiceOne Bank. 
  • Cindy Achterhoff to vice president small business lending manager. Achterhoff joined ChoiceOne as a VP, commercial loan officer in 2020, after a decade in banking in a similar position.  
  • Marina Aiken to Imlay City, Mich., branch manager. Aiken joined ChoiceOne in 2018 as a management trainee, and became a customer service specialist a year later. She most recently served as an assistant branch manager in the Imlay City office.  
  • Melanie Whitten to Cedar Springs, Mich., branch manager. Whitten joined ChoiceOne a dozen years ago, and in 2017 became a personal banker in the Cedar Springs office. She was promoted to assistant branch manager in 2020.
