Fite named new CSBS chair

The Conference of State Bank Supervisors elected Tom Fite as board chair during its annual meeting on May 19.

Fite

Fite has been director of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions since January 2016. In 2013, he was appointed deputy director of the department’s depository division. Fite spent the previous 15 years in field examination and regional supervision positions.

Last year, Fite was named chair of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council’s State Liaison Committee. Fite has served on the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group, and was named vice chair of the CSBS board in 2020.

Cooper’s appointment came four days after longtime CSBS President and CEO John Ryan died suddenly of natural causes at his home in Washington, D.C. “CSBS leadership decided it was important to proceed with this part of our governance to support the organization as it continues the work that was so important to John,” said Acting President and CEO Jim Cooper.

CSBS also elected new officers for 2022-23 and announced committee chair appointments during the meeting. New  Executive Committee officers include:

  • Chair-elect Lisa Kruse, commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions.
  • Vice chair Charlie Clark, director of the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions.
  • Treasurer Tony Salazar, commissioner of the Maryland Office of Financial Regulation.
  • Secretary Rhoshunda Kelly, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Banking and Consumer Finance.
  • Immediate Past Chair Melanie Hall, commissioner of Montana Banking and Financial Institutions.
