Independent Bank donates supplies for Turkey, Syria earthquake survivors

Employees of Ionia, Mich.-based Independent Bank donated supplies for survivors of the Feb. 6 earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria. 

Employees gathered sleeping bags, blankets, tents, winter gear, tents and medication. The supplies, which fill three large trucks, were later sent to the victims. Senior commercial bankers Kyle Anne Johns and Russ Kacin; Vice President Garrett Easter; and Senior Vice President Angela Champagne organized the drive. 

The 7.8 earthquake has killed nearly 55,000 people and displaced at least 2.4 million residents. Property damage is estimated at between $55 billion and $90 billion.
