Iowa bank blazes trails

State Savings Bank, Creston, Iowa, announced its commitment to expanding the trail system in Cherokee, Iowa, by contributing $25,000.

The first stage of the trail expansion project is to purchase a 50-acre parcel of land on the east side town, referred to as Magnetic Park. This is the last real estate needed to build a connected trail system.

The first stage of trail construction will be complete in 2019. Next is an expansion project which will add 2.25 miles of paved trails and 1.5 miles of grass and dirt trails.

This project will also restore the natural habitat of Magnetic Park and provide educational opportunities, including outdoor classrooms, pollinator gardens and historical sites to recognize the Fountain House, a former sanitarium.

State Savings Bank will be recognized along the new trail for their substantial donation.

The $116 million State Savings has branches in Bedford, Cherokee, Clearfield, Creston and Marcus, Iowa.
