Iowa banking superintendent to step down

Plagge

Iowa Division of Banking Superintendent Jeff Plagge will step down at the end of this year, according to the Community Bankers of Iowa.

Appointed by Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, Plagge has been in the position since September 2019. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished during my four-year tenure,” Plagge said. “The accomplishments include the modernization of the banking code, [and] passing the money transmission bill, building out an IT exam team, putting together an effective hybrid exam protocol, completion of a five-year strategic plan and building out our data analytics process.”

The Community Bankers of Iowa credited Plagge for his role in modernizing the state’s banking code “and other efforts that could result in a more level playing field for community banks.”

Plagge will continue serving on the boards of directors for Arnolds Park, Iowa-based Northwest Bank and Northwest Financial Corp. Chair of the American Bankers Association from 2013-14, Plagge was CEO of Northwest Financial from 2009-20.
