Michigan bank donates to veteran-focused dog rescue nonprofit

Michigan-based Chelsea State Bank donated more than $1,600 to veteran-focused dog shelter rescue Blue Star Service Dogs.

Blue Star rescues dogs from shelters and provides training to help combat veterans who suffer from combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Traumatic Brain Injury. Donation funds came from a Chelsea State Bank employee as part of an ongoing Blue Jean for Charity Fund.

Bank employees started the drive more than a decade ago to raise money for local charities. At the beginning of each year, an employee poll is taken to determine which four nonprofits will be a recipient of the Blue Jean for Charity Fund. Through the program, employees donate $3 each week, which allows them to wear jeans to work on Fridays. The bank then matches the donations for the selected nonprofit.

“Blue Star Service Dogs is an asset to the Washtenaw community, rescuing dogs while providing a companion for those who fought for our freedom,” said Chelsea State Bank President and CEO Joanne Rau. “We support a variety of veteran-related causes, and I am proud to add Blue Star Service Dogs to the list as another way we can give back to those who selflessly fought for our country.”
