This summer, Illinois lemonade-stand owners mean business

Washington Savings Bank, Effingham, Ill., is introducing a program that allows kids ages 6 to 12 to manage and run their own lemonade stands.

The $369 million bank will support the stands just like a real business. WSB Summertime CEO asks the participants to fill out an application and interview at any of its three bank locations in Effingham and Mattoon to get officially approved for the job.

The kids will march off with their lemonade stand kit, limited one per family. With the kit, the business owners will sport their official WSB Summertime CEO button, and set up their stands with cups, a pitcher, lemonade mix, sanitizing wipes, and $2 of start-up cash.

By the end of the summer, they’ll fill out and return their income statements and the young CEOs will each earn a certificate of completion and their picture in the WSB Summertime CEO Hall of Fame.

“With the entrepreneurial spirit that the Effingham area has, we feel confident that this program will be a success,” said Allison Donbach, a member of Washington Savings Bank’s marketing team. “WSB Summertime CEO program will just add another layer to what Effingham County has to offer.”

The inspiration for the program came after Donsbach saw another non-local bank successfully implement a similar program. The initiative will run May 22 to July 31.
